Life can really throw you some curve balls. Some days it’s seems like its a barrage of curve balls intermixed with knuckle balls, speed balls and few spit balls that splatter on you. What do you?  Do you stay in the batter’s box and keep swinging even when everything you hit seems to go foul?  Or do you find that a pitch or two goes by and you think to yourself “I should’ve hit that!”
How do you respond on those days when you are determined to stay in the batter’s box,  adjusting your swing, keeping your eye on everything thrown at you and the curve actually hits you? Oh it’s STINGS!  You recoil in pain, grumbling (maybe swearing) under your breath. The hit makes you step back  and regroup however, by staying in the box and taking the hit you are still able to move forward. Not the way you like to progress but still progress.
Mark Edwards said “You can’t control the curve balls life thows you, so you have to learn how to control yourself and change quickly to make sure the curve ball doesn’t know you out.”
Learning to control yourself is the real value of this crazy life experience. No matter what life throws at you, STAY IN THE GAME. Keep swinging. Learn to adjust to every pitch. Step out of the box for a moment and regroup then step back in ready to swing. Not all games are easy. Some games we loose and others we win but remember it’s the season that counts not a single game.

USAV Junior NationalsWe are enjoying day two of the USAV Nationals (Jr. Olympics). This morning the girls really struggled the first game. They were sluggish, slow to respond, and you could see in her face they just were not ready to play.

Game two was a completely different story! Their coach pulled them into a huddle. I’m not sure what she said, but you could see the fire in her face – motivating, inspiring, pushing the girls out of their current mindset.  They came on the court a different group. Things really got rolling when they won three serves in a row. Faces lit up, the pace quickened and they caught on fire.

It’s amazing what happens once you change your mind set. Cultivating little bit of HOPE and BELIEF that you can do it IGNITES a fire in your heart and your ATTITUDE changes. EARNING little wins BUILDS MOMENTUM. Once you have MOMENTUM it’s hard to stop success. Change your mindset and success will steamroll, building on itself, creating momentum that is difficult to stop until WINNING is an EXPECTATION not random luck.

No matter what it is, business, personal endeavors change your mindset and WIN!

Be Obsessed with ImprovementIn life, business, fitness or personal development what are you doing to improve your game? Are you investing in yourself? Are you taking time to become mentally, physically and spiritually stronger? Or, have you become content with  the state quo?

What could you learn dedicating only 30 minutes a day of reading or listening to a podcast a day? How would your health change if you set aside 30 minutes a day exercising and eating right? Could you reset your mind and attitude with 30 minutes of meditation at the start of your day?

You know the answer.

Quit stagnating! Listen to that inner voice that is pushing you to greatness and respond with action.

Time to push past good enough and BE GREAT!

Have a GREAT Week!

Focus to win!

Whether in business, fitness or your personal life if you want to succeed you have to FOCUS.

We live in a world that moves so fast that we tend to get distracted.  We are bombarded with opportunities.   Quick results are the siren call to distraction enticing you to abandon your original dream and pursue a “better” opportunity – ultimately leading to another failure.

Staying FOCUSED is a skill.  One that my son has spent many practices in basketball. For a while he struggled with the distraction of opponents “getting in his face” or the sound of the running up behind him. He worked and to develop the discipline to stay 100% focused on the basket no matter what. I’d tell him, “Yes, you may take a foul but a foul will give you the opportunity to turn 2 points into 3. Stay FOCUSED and you’ll hit more of your open shots and earn extra points when fouled.”  The results, this past season a 30% increase in shots made in a game.

FOCUS – Follow One Choice Until Successful. Make it your purpose.  With everything you have work to bring that goal to fruition.  Keep pushing! Don’t give up! Don’t get distracted. Drive yourself to make it happen. If it’s right and you put in the effort your goal will become a reality!

Have a GREAT Week!

This year I made it a goal to improve Jody with the specific goal of helping my company get to the next level in the process. My thought was that by improving me I would improve the rest of the team.  I committed myself to getting up 30 minutes earlier every day day to allow me more time to learn and explore new ideas, to read, to listen to podcast.  I have been inspired by great leaders like Gary Vaynerchuck and Dr. Eric Thomas (The Hip Hop Preacher). I’ve also dedicated myself to a solid fitness plan including working out and dialing in my nutrition.
I’ve come to realize  that investing in myself, outside of “regular business hours” is helping me focus my vision, management of time and helping me hone in on the things that are most important.
My question for you, I know you want to go to the next level, what are you doing to help yourself and your company get there?  What are you doing to learn and grow. What are you doing to up your game?  Are you investing in yourself? Or have you slid into the 9 to 5 mentality.
We all know it’s a grind. But our attitude, determination and commitment to getting it done make the difference.  We are mid 2017 time to regroup and push ourselves to the next level.  In the process we will discover that we can control and propel our destiny.
Have a great day!

Fetal-Position-Tall

How do you respond to adversity?

Is your first reaction to recoil and curl up in the fetal position? Do you react in anger and frustration? Or, do you press forward with a determination to succeed.

Remember your mindset is everything!  You can choose to be defeated or you can choose to succeed. There is no in between. As my wife ways when things get tough, “Time to woman up and put my big girl pants on!”

If you are struggling here are a seven tips to help you regroup and get back on track.

  1. Take a breath – Go ahead take a deep long cleansing breath. Felt good didn’t it.;)
  2. Take a walk – Get up and take walk. Do it now – no excuses. Amazing what a few minutes of fresh air and activity will do for your brain and attitude.
  3. Take a time out – A good coach knows when to take a time out.  A strategic time out is a powerful tool to regroup, to refocus our energies and to get back on task. Your tendency will be to look backwards. Instead assess where you are then look forward to where you want to go. Start from where you are today and and build a plan to get to your goal.
  4. Take baby steps – A long term plan is good – you need that.  However, you will find greater success and feel better about your progress if you work your plan backwards into manageable, measurable and achievable baby steps. Every one loves to win – design your plan in a way that allows you to have mini-wins along the way.
  5. Recognize “The Dip” – To many of us get discouraged and give up to soon. Recognize  you may be on track you may have just encountered a dip. (see Seth Godin’s Book – The Dip). Think of climbing a mountain.  Your climb is not always straight up. There are dips and valleys that prepare yourself for the next climb. Discipline yourself to work through the dip and stay on course. You are most likely one valley away from an awesome view.
  6. Don’t Complain – ok complain for a little bit, vent, get it off your chest. Now look for a solution. Griping will never solve a problem or create an opportunity.  Like my wife says to my daughters, “Now that you’ve got that off your chest, put on your big girl pants and woman up! You’ve got this! Now go solve the problem and get it done!”  Yes I had to quote my wife twice because it is sage advise for everyone.Quit complaining and ….
  7. Get to work – Don’t languish, don’t over analyze. Get busy! Get to work! The sooner you get to work the sooner your are back on track and the closer you will be to achieving your goal!

Every dip, every obstacle creates an opportunity for growth. You can chose to shy away or you can face the challenge and become better than you are today.   Your destiny is unwritten. Take control and write a story that will be amazing!

“You’ve got this! Now go solve the problem and get it done!”

Go-BigThe only person you are destined to become is the person YOU DECIDE to be.
Do you see obstacles or OPPORTUNITY? YOU are in CONTROL. No one else.

Yes, others can push, motivate, inspire and cheer you on, but ONLY YOU can put forth the EFFORT achieve amazing things.

Quit looking at what can’t be done. Look at what CAN be done.

Change you focus. Toss aside the negative. Decide today to put your energies and effort into kicking open doors that seem closed. A shift in mindset and actions will set you on a whole new path to success.

Don’t Wait! Take control now!

Be BOLD. Destiny is not accidental!
